Best Diesel for Racing?

Who do you think makes the best diesel for racing? A friend of mine (who is an avid Ford fan) even admitted that he thinks the Cummins is probably the best engine for hot-rodding, just because it seems to be beefier and stands up to abuse better. But there are getting to be a lot of hopped-up Duramaxes out there now, too. Who do you think rules the diesel racing hill?

Here We go again Benny Its not near as easy and affordable as a cummins the only real hot Duromaxes out there are sponcered by Big companys becaouse it takes a lot of money to make a Duromax compete agaist the Dodge.

I think I gotta lean toward Toy with this one. You can make a Duramax go fast, but you're going to have to upgrade a lot of the internal components on that before you'd have to do it with a Cummins at the same power levels.

Not really the Duramax is a fast truck with lots of power. It has proven itself ever bit as good as the Cummins.

The Duramax may have more factory hp and torque. But load the trucks up and see which one pulls the most and the hardest. You'll find your Duramax is a slouch in that area. Trust me I know we did the same test with my dads '07 Dodge 3500 and my neighbors '08 Chevy 3500. My dad got better fuel mileage, pulled harder, and road better than the Chevy. They both had the same trailer with the same load on the back. As for racing the Cummins still is top dog. Where you say the duramax is easier to build and less expensive is where you are very wrong my friend. First off one slight difference from a a Duramax and a cummins is on the Cummins there is 2 less cylinders and everything is in a row. That means less moving parts, less to go wrong, less friction. If you pay any attention to the DHRA diesel drags, you would notice what engine is the top dog. The Cummins, that's what wins, that's what always has won. The worlds fastest truck...not powered by a Duramax or a Powerstruck, but it is powered by a Cummins. There are thousands more examples, but I think I have allready proved my point enough. I have also noticed Benny in another post that you were bashing Toyota's...How does it feel when you go out in the morning and start up that Duramax, (if you even have one that is) and know your driving a truck powered by an Isuzu engine?? Not any less foriegn than a Toyota...

HI 5569.The Duramax is a better puller and I have proof.http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/Comparos/articleId=115662
That will tell you the truth and you will see the Duramax wins in an unbiased test.

Ben we have gone over this time and time again. The cummins is cheaper and easier to work on therefore it is better for racing. This site suits you better Benny you should stay here

Well E2 surprise surprise. You just don't like the Duramax because you got a bad one.Not every Duramax is bad they are powerful hell even Cummins is going to a V8 in their 1500 trucks and they are considering ditching the 6.7L and offering a V8 Cummins instead. But I could be mistaken on the replacing the 6.7L but Cummins will offer a V8 in the 1500 Dodge.

They are offering the V8 Cummins in the half tons and keeping the 6.7s. If i remember right stock to stock comparison the new 6.4 Powerstrokes are the fastest down the drag strip then the Duramax then the Cummins. But the fact is that no one races a stock diesel they all mod them to hell. The easiest by far is the Cummins to work on because there is less stuff in the bay than there is of any of the V8 diesels and the Cummins also has a longer power band than either of the V8 diesels. The Duramax has its powerband at high revs, I would know i owned one unlike you who has only driven one in the parking lot of a county fair.
