Taken from Motor Trend Blogs:
Rumors have been flying for some time about the so-called baby Hummer, also known as the H4. Now, according to Automotive News and the Hummer fan site Hummer Guy, the small SUV project is in development and has received the go-ahead for production.
While the model year predictions are different -- anywhere from 2009 to 2011 is being tossed about -- one thing is clear, the long-awaited small Hummer is on the fast track to dealer showrooms. According to Hummer Guy, a concept version of the vehicle, called the HX, will first be seen at the 2008 Detroit show and has already been shown to Hummer dealers by brand honcho Martin Walsh.

That's just a picture of the H3 concept truck they showed a few years ago. It'll probably look similar in some ways, but not identical. I'd be interested to know what they're planning to stick under the hood. Hopefully something better than that lame 3.7L I-5 engine. My vote's for the 5.3 V-8 as an option, and the 3.6 DI V-6 as standard. Maybe a turbodiesel option.

I'm as much of a GM fan as anyone, but the H4 had better come to the party with some serious hardware if it thinks it's going to topple the Wrangler as the most desirable 4x4 out there. You don't earn street cred overnight. I'm waiting to see what actually happens.
