I need some help! I have a 96 GMC Sierra Xtended cab with a 2/4 drop. Drop springs in the front and a shackle/hanger kit in the rear. Im running 275/45/20s and its beating the *** out of me. I have about 2 inches clearance in the rear between the frame rail and the top of the leaf springs. With every bump, it bottom outs. I have ordered drop shocks for it but will that make that much of a difference? Others have the same drop with a better ride, what do I need to do to have a smoother ride?

Hi there. In theory, the drop shocks will make a pretty noticeable difference. A lot of shocks are what are called "progressive rate" much like springs. Essentially, the further they are compressed, the stiffer they become. Just like when you're just crusing down the street, you want a nice ride, but when you take a corner fast, you want the control of a stiffer shock. When you pair lowering springs with the stock shocks, you're essentially compressing the shocks and making them stiffer all the time, instead of just when you want them to be. Drop shocks should have a shorter body optimized to work with drop springs to give you a smooth ride when crusing, and control when cornering. If you don't notice a difference after you've installed the new drop springs, I'd see if you can return them, and do some shopping for other drop shocks. Hope this helps.
