Sometimes I wonder if vehicle designers from other nations design their vehicles based on their perceptions not only of American tastes, but of Americans themselves. Case in point is the new for 2008 Toyota Highlander. I saw one of these for the first time today in the flesh and was horrified at how much visual weight it had put on in its rear end. Kind of like most Americans nowadays, eh? What do you think?

Is that the exhaust coming through the bumper?

No. It looks like they're just reflectors. I think having exhaust cut-outs through the bumper would be way too cool for a freakin' Highlander. Yeah, it does look a little chunky. I much prefer the Mazda CX-9. Yes, it's large, but it carries its weight well. "Solid" as opposed to "fat."
