i'm sure you have heard from readers ..more more more more vans... as readers have heard lots of ......"we're trying" and "soon" just curious what was the cause of the loss of coverage or "subject changes" truckin started out among the greatest publications with vans why not continue it? (even if on a consistent small scale) was like vans turned taboo overnight and nobody wanted to cover them was it the sponsors? sale numbers? subscription numbers? ownership transfer? - radio stations change formats all the time and for similar reasons i suppose, but alot of the time the dial gets a spin and another station gets found - it's a flip flop similar situation, some readers would keep "listening" hoping for more change or like the change, some would move on and lose interest - sorry if this is a "touchy" subject but i am among many who have wanted to ask for a long time..... what happened? or was it something we said?

Well, it's probably a variety of factors. The advertiser base has shifted to full-size pickups. Although there is some overlap of components and parts, they're by and large different markets, and the dirty little secret of magazine publishing is that yes, advertisers do influence editorial.
Every now and then, you'll see a van in Truckin', but maybe 2-3 times a year. I guess the best advice I could give you is to keep writing the editors and tell them you want to see more vans in the mag. I'm doing the best I can as the web guy to make sure you guys get coverage. (There are about 5 videos online of custom classic vans).
Don't blame yourself. It's not anyone's "fault." Just like, why did wagons get replaced, for the most part, by SUVs? I've heard a lot of different answers. One that maybe not many people think about, is because of a CAFE loophole. Because SUVs could be classified as "trucks" whereas wagons were classified as "passenger cars" the OEMs could get away with making the SUVs less fuel-efficient, and not get in hot water for it. And people seemed to gobble them up like crazy. But now you've got the "crossovers" because now that gas is $3 a gallon in some ares, people are whining about how much they're spending on gas.
I'm trying my best to make sure van enthusiasts still feel like a welcome part of the Truckin' community. I hope you guys feel that way.

still really kickin? ........................................ sorry but vanning is ,was and always will be alot more exciting than that! - first because of the friends made,.... and KEPT but it's the vans that bring us together in strong increasing numbers -there was alot of history in this line up at this years nationals a powerful moment for many many who got to see it in person (i am lucky enough to be the guy that lines this up) there were 600+ vans at this event, 46 in attendance were dated 1970 or before we got 44 of them into the line up for some traffic stopping crowd gathering bazillion pictures taken yearly activity -some of these vans have been with their owners for many many many years some of these vans are recent builds, finds or restorations 99% are DRIVEN anywhere they go -previous "record" was 21 at the 06 nationals next year we hope to smash the record of 44 with a bunch more! just a fraction of how kickin vanning is ....
![]() (by the way.. pinks just blinked on showing this van... we'd like to see and know more if ya know em)
![]() another kickin thing happend there largest participating club was an online club www.vcvc.org vintage chevy van club (that thing on the center vans roof is the Van iN theater , a screen and sound system that van owner (viewmaster/carl) build to be a portable theater at the clubs camp site.. many nights coolers vanners and lawn chairs would gather to watch a movie supplied by a very wild electronic and computer driven system ... just another example of kickin stuff vanners do )
