A Convertible Off-Roader? Is Someone at Audi Drunk?

It may seem like a weird idea, but Audi may offer a drop-top version of its forthcoming Q5 baby SUV. It would its inspiration from the Cross Cabriolet Quattro, shown here at the LA Auto Show.
Design chief of Audi USA, Brit Steve Lewis claimed that: “Such a vehicle has been talked about within the company for some time as no one has ever done a cabriolet SUV before. If there is sufficient demand for around 5,000 units a year it could go into limited production and arrive around 2010.”
If such a vehicle gets the go-ahead it is likely to be built with the help of German coachbuilder Karmann, as it created the roof on the show car. But the canvas covering isn’t the only feature of the drop-top off-roader that could end up in the showroom. Company bosses are also considering adding the bright metallic Copper Sunrise orange paint to its colour charts.

Yeah. Yet another chapter in the book of automotive oddities. And I think I'm going to puke if anyone claims an "off-road sports car" is a novel or new concept. Look at what now-defunct AMC had back in the '80s. Granted, it may have only had 112 horsepower, but conceptually, it's not far off:
