i have a 1994 Dodge Ram 3500 with the 5.9 diesel. Although the tach shows a redline of 3,000, the engine revs to around 2250 before flattening out. The engine took a new camshaft before I bought it and the pump was retimed. Is this RPM normal?

It should rev to at least 3k rpm before the torque curve starts to flatten out. 2250 sounds a lot low to me. Who replaced these parts? A diesel specialist or a dealer with a diesel specialist? Diesel engines are not the easiest to work on for guys used to gas motors. Make sure you get any repairs on your diesel done by someone who only fixes diesels.

Also, try posting on our sister site, Dieselpowermag.com. Someone there might have additional insight for you!

No, that actually sounds about right for a 12-valve. Those were definitely not revvers. However, you can get them to rev higher with some modifications. I agree with Balboa, visit the Diesel Power forums. There are a lot of knowledgeable people there that could probably give you better insight.
