What's more important to you guys, the number of cylinders, or how much power the engine produces? The reason I'm asking is that there have been some inidcations that an EcoBoost engine will be offered in the 2009 or 2010 F-150, and it's most likely going to be a V6. Even if the V6 produced more horsepower and torque than its normally-aspirated V8 counterpart, would you still buy the V8 just for the sound & status?

Power and TQ rules all.

I could care less about having a 6 litter engine, when a 4.0 M3 blows me out of the water.

Of course, putting down the power would be nice too!

In a factory application I think I'd go for the power of the turbo V-6 over a weaker, naturally-aspirated V-8, but it still matters where the V-6 makes that extra power.  I can't imagine Ford building a truck motor without a lot of mid-range torque.  Since gasoline turbo motors have always been known as car engines, Ford might have trouble converting a lot of hard-core truck buyers that a turbo V-6 is the engine for them.

REMEMBER KISS !!! KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID !!! The V8 is the way to go, TURBOS, break, have lag, cost money. The V8 will give you HP & TQ, and they don't break down !!!!!

Horsepower and torque is what counts for me. My 3.0 produces more power per CI than any V8 ive ever built.. The Advantage of a V6 is the quick and high rev capabilities...Most will say that there is no replacment for Cubic inch. Well that rule doesnt apply anymore.

I seriously doubt you'll ever see a 4-banger in a FS truck (although if any of you remember the 4-cyl Toyota T-100s a few years ago, that was dangerously close) but I think you're definitely going to see some forced-induction six-pots under the hood.

HEY WHEATMAN, IF that so, WHY don't I see anymore MUSTANG SVO???? They had the same HP as the V8, BUT THE V8 IS HERE TO STAY. NO MATTER what you do to your engine, I can spend less and still out HP and TQ the puny 4 and 6 cylinder. HEY esanchez Lets see if I strir somebody blood pressure, and we get some replys!!!!!!!

I think Ford would NEVER install the four cylinder Ecoboost on its trucks, but the six cylinder option (and I mean option!) is a good idea. The V8 engine, I think, will always be superior for towing ability and the heavenly noise it makes. It is as American as apple pie and will take at least 30 years to die out completely. (Kind of like Buick.)

Also, does the term "Ecoboost" reek to anyone else of a Marketing term? Plenty of manufacturers including VW have been using Direct Injection and turbo-boosting of smaller motors and have not gotten the attention this "Ecoboost" has received.

Balboa, of course it's marketing jargon! It's not really revolutionary technology. But the fact that Ford's planning on offering it over such a wide range of vehicles and applications is significant. I personally wouldn't mind an EcoBoost V6 in the Mustang, but I agree nothing can compete with the sound of V8 with a nice set of pipes on it.

I have to agree with you Gunman. I'd be extremely hesitant about buying a 6 cyl work truck (even if it does produce more hp and tq). The cost and trouble of a beakdown would constantly be tearing in the back of my head. There's just no replacing the american built v8s. What is the world coming to?

Beleive what you want gunman, Ive been building Engines along time. They keep getting Smaller and more Powerful. Even the V8's have shrunk. BTW, i never mentioned a Four cylinder, but if you want to find all those old Turbo engines, look for em in a crap load of Rangers now...
