'89 K-1500 Hood Latch Broken, Can't Hood Open, Please Help

We're trying to get started on a project truck here but the hood won't even open, it seems like the cable broke at the hood latch or something.
How would you go about getting the hood open without the latch?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you get a flat ratchet (Craftsman or other) you might be able to un-bolt the hood from the top. I'd start by removing the wiper cowl, if you can. Just a thought.

The hood release under my dash doesn't work, but inside the grille there is a cable that comes from the hood latch, I have to pull that to open the hood otherwise I dont know how else to help.
