I just bought a 79 camper. If I insure on my regular policy they would pay me blue book if it was wrecked. A few hundred dollars at most. So I started calling insurance collector agencies. A lot of the do not insurance these old VW vans. The ones that do will not insure them if you actually use them. They only ensure them if they are for show only. Anyone have any recommendation?

There are some companies that specialize in insuring classic vehicles. i don't know if a '79 microbus camper would qualify, but it's probably worth a call. Here are a few companies:
www.hagerty.com
www.classicins.com
www.grundy.com
Hope this helps.

There have been a few discussions about this over at www.vannin.com Some have had success and others not. A lot of the classic car compaines will not insure vans, in fear of guys insuring their work vans though them. Worth a look tho.

I've heard a few guys say they have been able to add their vans to policys through companies that told them no, but they had other vehicles already insured thru them.
