Anything is possible when you set your mind it.

But, why go smaller?

Demon, well, there is the fact that the 5.7 Hemi has 100 more horsepower than the 5.9, and 45 lb./ft. more torque.

There's two ways you could go with this...Either do a complete engine/tranny swap from a newer Ram, including the 5-speed auto, or you can get a Hemi crate motor with a stand-alone engine management controller, and you could probably bolt that up with any tranny that has the same bolt pattern as the bellhousing.

Hemi is a much more modern design than the 5.9, and has a lot better potential for tuning, although you can get decent power out of a 5.9 if you're willing to get the parts for it.

Yeah, the 5.9 is a good workhorse motor, but it's not the greatest starting point for a hi-po engine. A new Hemi with just a cam and some chip tuning can usually out-power even a 5.9 with a bolt-on supercharger.

The trans behind the 5.9 is the same as the one behind the 5.7 Hemi, except for the fact it is a 4 speed versus a 5 speed. The 5.9 has a 45RFE, the 5.7 has a 545RFE....same bolt pattern, same torque convertor. The hemi is a straight bolt in. Just make sure if you buy a used one, you get the electronics with it too, and try to find an 04 or up engine. Reason? The 03 has the trans controller and engine controller in one computer. The 04 up has seperate computers. Contact www.3rdStrikePerformance.com for more information. They have a huge selection of Dodge parts...

Thanks for the tip, semo. Sometimes it seems we're a little short on Mopar expertise here. Much appreciated!
