have 96 dakota v-6. sat for 3 years, but started regularly. now have put 2,000 miles and it runs well. had codes checked and it needed an o-2 sensor, which has been installed. no codes now.
issue is emmission readings....causing me a fair. in 2 areas.
hydrocarbons should not exceed .5 mine is .64
noX should not exceed 1.12 mine is 2.246

any ideas...? alwasys passed emission testing prior to sitting....mileage is 160,000 miles.

I'd put in Techron for a couple of tankfuls, and re-test. I've heard of a lot of people having good luck with this.  

Your convertors needed to be cleaned out. Run some high octane fuel with octane booster in it, out on the interstate about 70-75 for a couple of hours. That will burn the junk out of the convertors....and clean the carbon build up out of the engine.
