I own a 2001 Dakota Sport 2wd with a 3.9 V6 & 5 speed manual transmission. I want to swap it out with a V8. What do I need to accomplish this?

Should be pretty straightforward. The 3.9 V-6 is just the 5.2 with two cylinders lopped off. Not exactly sure off the top of my head, but I'd imagine all you'd need is new engine mounts, wiring harness, and a few other things. Anyone else have any advice?

88dakota, I believe the V8s were only offered in the "long-nose" versions. You might have to change out your core support and front grille to accommodate a V8. Sorry I'm not more of a Mopar expert.

Try Turn Key Engine Supply. They're mostly the Gen-3 and 4 small-blocks. If you're looking for help with the older ones, there are a lot of other companies that do those.

If you're sticking with a Mopar motor, it should be fairly straightforward. The 3.9 V6 is essentially the 5.2 with two cylinders hacked off. But if you're going with a Chevy engine, you might have to get some adapters and special wiring harnesses to make it work.
