I was told that the engine doesnt produce enough power to smoke the tires! Is there some kind of traction control that keeps the tires from smoking while stomping the accelerator and holding down the brake? or is it true?

Depends on the truck & configuration. If you've got a 2WD short-bed regular cab, you probably could, but if you've got a crew cab or long-bed extended cab 4x4, that might be true. Depending on the model year, most of the newer trucks have some sort of stability control. Need more details. Thanks.

its an '05 2wd avalanche. its got some get up and go, added a k&n cold air intake, throttle body spacer, hypertech max energy programmer in premium mode. not sure what else to do. it's weak off the line.

Well, it may not exactly be a "budget-friendly" solution, but if you bolt a Magna Charger supercharger on there, that thing will go like stink, guaranteed. The "Maggies" especially help low end and off-the-line get up & go, because they're twin-screw, as opposed to centrifugal, which give you a lot of top-end, but don't help much as far as low-end torque. They're about $4k, though. I mean, you can do headers, a tuner, exhaust, etc., but none of 'em are going to give you as big of a power boost as a blower.

No doubt the supercharger would rock. Not exactly economical right now, but its an option.

The other option is a shorter axle ratio, but it'll hurt your fuel economy a little. Also, the Avalanche is a pretty heavy truck. I wouldn't be too disappointed that you can't smoke 'em at will.
Also, if you have 20s or 22s or other big rims, it's going to take a lot of power to smoke those. There's no way you're going to smoke those with just a few bolt-ons. Not trying to rain on your parade, just sayin'.

Stock wheels and tires. At the present, budget conscious but like to know what options i have for the future of my truck. I've had the pleasure of smokin my buddy's f150 2 or 3 times, so i guess its not all that bad.

Honestly, my feeling is if it's got power on the road, who cares if you can do a big smoke show off the line? I think it's more fun to give guys a couple car-lengths head-start, and then catch up to 'em and pass 'em.
