Hello guys, I have a few questions, and what better place to get the answers. Well I am thinking about getting a either a 1999 Chevy Suburban or a 1999 Chevy Tahoe. Most likely a 2wd model so that I can lower it (unless it is possibly to lower a 4wd, but who would waste a good 4wd. What I would like to do is lower it to scrape the worms off the street. I really like the look of the Cadillac conversion kits they have out now. Is it possible to do a conversion using the "box" style (I think the year is 1999 or 2000?)? How hard is the swap? I am a painter by trade and am not to mechanically inclined to be honest. If it is just a simple swap I could do it though. Well guys, thank you for your time and effort in helping me. I believe the '99 Suburbans and Tahoes were still the GMT-400 models. The Escalade nose you're talking about was on the GMT-800s. I've seen the conversion done many times, but if you're going from GMT-400 to GMT-800, it's not exactly a bolt-on swap. The swap would be total cake if you were talking about an '00 Suburban or Tahoe, since they're kissin' cousins to the '02 Escalade. The '99 Escalade was still the GMT-400, which looked almost identical to the GMC Yukon Denali. The "box" style didn't come out 'til the 2002 model year (I don't think there was technically a 2001 Escalade.)
So if you're looking at something that would require minimum fabrication, I'd try and get an '00 Tahoe or Sub. But it's doable either way. Hope this helps.

So, If I want the "box" style I need to get a 00 and up burban, and if I get a 99 then I most likely will be stuck with the bass mouth front?

Not necessarily. It will just take a lot more work to put the box-style front end on a '99. It's possible, just not exactly a "bolt-on" proposition like the '02 nose on a '00 would be.

So would it be easier for me to do the year it was? Find a Cadillac front for that year? Is that an easy swap?

Yes. It would be much easier to do the "box-style" Escalade nose-swap onto a 2000 or later Tahoe or Suburban than on a '99.
