What are the pros and cons of converting a 2002 2wd Sport Trac?
I have a 2002 Sport Trac that I want to convert to 4wd I have read some things on a regular Explorer w/manual tranny but nothing on a Sport Tracs w/automatic tranny.  Is this possible? I know that the trucks are very similar but I know that similar does not necessarily mean the same. If so what do I need for parts?

2wd to 4wd conversions range from simple to nearly impossible. For instance, if you were to try to convert a Tacoma PreRunner to 4x4, it's relatively easy, since the front suspension is practically straight off a 4x4, minus the drivetrain components.

But it's not always the case. With the GMT-400 and 800 trucks, the front suspensions were completely different between the 2wd and 4wd models.

I guess the bottom line is if time and money are not an issue for you, and you enjoy a good challenge, go for it. Otherwise, consider trading your truck for a factory 4x4.
