I have a 1991 Chevy S-10 Blazer with a non-Vortec 4.3L V6. What would be involved in putting in a Vortec 4.3L V6 and what modifications if any would be needed? Or would a Chevy 350 be a better option?

Vortec should swap right in. You might need a new engine computer, but everything else should bolt right up. A 350 would be a relatively easy swap as well. I think the bellhousings on the back of the 4.3 and the later-model 350s are the same.

Re: Big-block into a 1500. Well, first of all, you're probably going to have to upgrade to the 4L80 transmission. You're probably also going to have to do a custom driveshaft, and I would probably upgrade to a 14-bolt or Ford 9-inch rear end. It's not impossible, but it's not exactly a weekend project either. Naturally, new engine mounts, and heavier-duty front springs or torsion bars.
