Here is my question.....I have a 1996 GMC truck with the CPI 350. I have been looking around for the engine in a salvage yard and the prices are outrageous. Now I can get a low mileage '91 350 for next to nothing and I have heard both sides of controversy. I have been told that I can take the heads and intake off my '96 and they will interchange with no mods, then I have heard there are alot of differences. Personally I believe that they are fully interchangeable but hey, I've been wrong before. Let me know any facts you have. I will greatly appreciate it!!

I want to say yes, but I'm not 100% sure. What I do know for sure is that you CAN'T swap heads between the Gen-II and Gen III/IV small-blocks (basically, LT1 and LS1.) They're completely different engines. There are some aftermarket companies that make performance heads that will probably bolt on to your block.
My suspicion is the only thing that might give you headaches are the cooling passages. I think I remember seeing tech stories about swapping Vortec heads onto older blocks, but you needed to drill out some cooling passages or something. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
