I have a 99 Silverado 1500 ext. cab with the 5.3 vortec. It is the floor shift 4x4, automatic transmission. It has started making some odd noise and when she finally pops, I would like to put ANY v8 gas or any diesel in it with a manual transmission. I have searched and searched the internet and have seen nobody that could help me. Please let me know what you guys think!!

The 5.3 was never offered with a manual transmission from the factory. Only the 4.8. That's not to say you couldn't do it, but probably more trouble that it's worth. Since it's dimensionally about the same, I'd think about trying to put an LS1 or LS2 under the hood. It'd give you a lot more power. I don't know what kind of bellhousing adapters you'd need, or what specific transmission, but it's a fairly common swap.

BTW, the Tundra hasn't exactly been trouble-free either. There have been some cases of the camshafts cracking, and the tailgate bending. Not a bad truck, but not perfect, either.

I'm currently putting a LS-1 GTO motor and race trans in my 99 Silverado Z71, So far, the only issues seem to be Injector plugs, fuel pump return line doesn't exist on the GTO motor, and I'm waiting on a GTO PMC which is programmed for the truck wiring harness.
I feel like a pioneer, because there is no info out there. (I absolutely would appreciate help too)
The 5.3 had 240000 miles on it, and still ran great (many miles of beating on it shows the incredible engineering that GM puts into their vehicles)
I have never driven a more comfortable high performance truck, and I've had toyotas/dodge/fords.
I guess with 375 h.p., and hot shifts I may be content.
Give me a week or two, and I'll let you know about the transplant.
