I just changed plug wires in my 98 sonoma with the 4.3 vortech motor and now it 1) pings ALOT when I mash the go pedal and lite pinging under lite throttle 2)has a loud buzzing noise in the engine compartment(no buzzing through the radio)3) and lastly the temp gauge only reads around 160 degrees.(The air does not feel as hot as before.)I am broke and really do not have the money to bring it in to a shop. This is my daily driver and I would like to keep it going.Any and all help is greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Were they factory replacements or aftermarket wires? I know some aftermarket wires have external ground straps.

How does it run/idle otherwise? You want to make sure that all the wires are going to the correct cylinders. I know you're probably thinking "duh" but believe me, it happens more than you'd think.

Finally, did you gap the plugs before you put them in? It's possible the gap is off on the plugs, and that might be what's causing the pinging. I don't know about the radio noise, though.

They are aftermarket wires.I checked everything. All wires are in proper order, nothing loose.Did find a bad thermostat and bad pcv valve.Replaced those and everything seems to run fine now??? It now looks like I am having transmission problems now.just something else to have to deal with.

Well, it was probably the thermostat and PCV. Hope you get everything figured out with your transmission.
