396 and 402 4 bolt main blocks were only used in high performance passenger cars and El Camino SS models.  454 4 bolt blocks also for the most part were in high performace passenger cars and SS El Caminos as well, but I have seen them in some C-30's over the years.  All 454 Mark V's and Mark VI's (1991 and newer) are 4 bolt blocks.  Tall deck big blocks came in 366, 427, and 454 cubic inches.  These blocks are only found in heavy trucks like Chevy C-65's, GMC 6500 and 7000's, school bus chassis, and industrial applications.  There are a few exceptions to this.  There are some good books that go by the block casting numbers and can tell you exactly what vehicle a particular block came out of.  Also, for street use, a 2 bolt block is usually plenty strong enough.  Good luck and happy hunting!
