I have a Chevy Silverado 2004 gas burning 2500/6.0L and read in truckin magazine about products the better the power and MPG. I am overwhelmed at how many there are and was wonder what would be your advice on what to use as far as giving my gas guzzler better gas milage.I have looked at CAI,dual exhaust, and super chips; but it is hard to find much for a gas truck and I don't know what brands or even what to add to get the MPG without giving it to much power that it don't help the MPG out at all. Also I herd adding a super chip I will need gauges to moniter things.Anyway I hope you can give some answers or alittle help.

                               Thanks in advance,
                                    Stevo out of S.W. Missouri

Honestly, the biggest factors in improving fuel economy are pretty simple. Keep your tires properly inflated, change your oil at recommended intervals, and change your driving habits a little.

One driving style is called the "pulse & glide." Basically, accelerate moderately aggressively (but don't "floor it") to get up to cruising speed quickly. Once at your desired cruising speed, use the throttle as little as possible to maintain cruising speed, just barely tapping it when needed to maintain speed.

A lot of newer vehicles use little to no fuel when coasting (in gear.) Another myth/misconception is that you use less fuel when coasting in neutral rather than coasting in gear. If coasting in gear, the engine will actually use LESS fuel than if you shift it to neutral and let the engine idle while coasting.

Whether you buy an aftermarket CAI or keep your stock airbox, make sure the filter stays clean. I would clean/replace it (depending on type) about every third oil change.

In regard to "needing" gauges with an aftermarket tuner, that's mostly true only with diesels, as tuning can significantly increase exhaust gas temperatures, which can cause damage to the engine and emissions systems. As long as you're not running a turbo or supercharger, I wouldn't worry too much about EGTs. Only time you really need to keep an eye on temperature is when towing/hauling. It should not be an issue in normal driving. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply esanchez that is all true of what I do know.I am still wondering though if you have any advice on wether I could make some engine changes to help the gas milage. Maybe a cool air intake system or chip if so do you have any recomendations or opinions. I have herd alot of guys with my size truck add a chip and take there mpg from 15 to 18 on average but even 20 mpg. I have also herd giving it daul exhuast even betters the gas milage not by much but it helps. Anyway I thank you for your time hope to hear back Thanks.
