i need a steering column, automatic type, dog house, info on engine mount for a
v-8.

use a mustang engine mount. As for dog house try to get a 2nd generation Chevy doghouse. They are bigger and you can put an Econoline lid on it. For any part you might need try this website,http://www.vintage-vans.com/ .There are a lot of Econoheads there that can help you. Also when you swap your six for a V8 you will need a larger radiator. I recommend an aluminum one from Griffin with a 2800cfm electric pusher fan. An air tunnel will help too since it gets pretty hot inside the doghouse even if it is the larger Chevy one I mentioned earlier.The steering column you want is pretty hard to find but keep an eye out on ebay or there are three or for guys on vintagevans.com that may have one.

I forgot, if you don't have a belly pan, get one. They generally sell for $75.00-$125.00 on ebay. I have an extra one that I would sell. Also if you can't find the steering column you can get a B&M and mount it on a small console like I did in my 66 Econo with a 347 stroker and a C5 tranny. Another thing, stay away from any chrome parts. Chrome does not dissipate heat very well and you sure don't need to add any more heat to an already very hot dog house. Use aluminum parts because aluminum dissipates heat very well. If you use headers have them Jet Hot coated. Headers run at 800-900 degrees but with the Jet hot coating they run between 500 and 600 degrees lessening the heat in the dog house and greatly lengthening the life of your headers.
 Personally I would keep the straight six motor and build it using Clifford performances 6=8 cam, head, headers, etc. and a Unilite distributor. You can get up to 300HP and over 400 pounds of torque that way and for even more power go with Cliffords three two barrel setup with throttle body injection. i can use a mustang engine mount? what about the stock engine mount from the 6 banger? i too am disabled and im trying to find the correct way to finish this project. your info is very helpful and i would be smart to keep the 240 in it....ttyl, daniel

Yep. Chrome will quickly turn purple under high heat. Some guys like that look, others don't. Jet Hot coatings seem to be very durable.

Yes the 240 is your best bet. Those motors are almost bullet proof and you can produce a lot of torque with them. Also you can put an aluminum intake on it and add a four barrel carb if you want. There is a place in Mesa Arizona called Classic Inlines http://www.classicinlines.com/default.asp that has some very nice parts for our Early Econos. They even have an aluminum head. I use aluminum whenever possible to keep the weight down and improve mileage and because aluminum dissipates heat very well. I even had a 20 gallon aluminum gas tank built for my 66 Econo to replace the stock 13 gallon tank.

i have a 66 econoline supervan with a 240 motor i built for it myself its basicly stock i bored it 30 over with forged flat top pistons in it, everything else is stock on it and it has plenty of torque and its a van you are not putting a motor for racing at the strip in it, i am wanting to get rid of the autolite 1100 carb and put a 2 barrel holly on it, the one barrels seem to have more problems with vapor lock and gas percolation in the summer with that dog house holding the heat in at shut off,  I  modified the fuel line routing a bit i have a mr gasket fuel pump at the tank and run steel line up to front but i have it come up where the mechanical pump sits and then go around the top front of the dog house and go back in on the intake side along the dog house keeping it totally away from any engine heat keeping the fuel going to carb as cool as possible i did that to stop the hard starts after you run it for a while and stop and come back out 10 minutes later and it being hard to start until the fuel vapor is back to liquid
