Be careful what year small-block Mopar you use. I put a mild 318 from the early 70's in my '89 Dakota. The 3.9 V6 and later model V8s have mounting bosses in the block that the early LA V8s do not have. In my case, I had to build a cross-member to mount the engine and run an electric cooling fan ahead of the radiator to make room for sort of a poor-man's Shelby Dakota.

If it is a 3.9L motor, check to see if the bracket near the oil pan is wet. I have an antifreeze problem with my dakota. Could not find a leak anywhere. Unfortunatly, i found the cause. I started feeling around on my block and there is a soft plug underneath the motor mount on the passenger side. Its not an easy fix, which is why i have been putting if off for so long. Hope it helps.
