I have a 68 dodge van that has been in the family since it was new. I am trying to figure out what to do with it. I had at one time hoped to restore it but it looks like that is not going to happen. The running gear is in pretty good shape although it needs the carb rebuilt since it has sat a while. There are alot of childhood and adult memories in that van. The body needs some work but is resonably intact. The undercarraige is in great shape. It has a 318 with the 727 automatic and the 390 posi rear end. It is one of the more heavy duty vans with heavy springs and 15" tires. It has a pop top and is the 108" wheelbase. If anyone wants a good solid project van this would be a good one. The engine has about 200k on it and it has been rebuilt once and has modern heads on it with the hardened seats. When it ran last it did not burn much oil.

Wow, you're really going all out with this! From first glance, it looks like the nose has the most corrosion. How's it coming along?

Well this weekend sucked!

Thursday night I finished up the jacking system after cutting the grass. I had made a cocktail and looked around the garage that has been destroyed. I told my wife, the next order of business was to clean the garage. Called a buddy to help put the spare doors back into the attic of the barn. THEN tragedy struck....

I climbed into the van to jack up the jacking system to prepare the roof for the final cuts. As luck would have it the front system was about an inch too short. No problem, I figured, I'll just run some 2x4's under the system to raise it up the rest.

So, I climbed out of the van stepped on my welders plug and twisted my ankle.  Down I went!

Well, I just got back from the Orthopedist And I have 2 fractures in my foot and torn ligaments in my ankle

Needless to say, work on the early has come to a screeching halt and will have to be on hold for at least 3 more weeks.

I'm working with a few guys now for a rust free nose. If all goes as planned, it will be grafted on to the van.

It sure looks awesome Pal, can't you weld up some sort of sling set-up with a counter-weight (like Road Warrior) to support yourself as you heal...?  Make sure you add a drink holder to it...    lol...

later...

Thanx buddy!

Trust me, when I tell you I'm working on the design now

I actually have a bucket truck (I hate ladders) that I've been trying to engineer for that day when I can't move around well enough to keep on building customs

My first van was a 70 A-100 with a 400 big block engine that wasn't put in properly.  Ran pretty good though.

Since then I've owned 2 69 A-108's, a 67 A-100 "no door", and a 67 A-100 ex-bell system van.  Oh and I had a 65 A-100 pickup as well.

I'd like to get another early Dodge someday, but money is tight and I have to stick with what I have.
