I have had a lot of issues with this engine. Has 86K+ miles on it and still under Ford warranty. I have read that this engine had troubles... When I got the truck in late 2005 it was fast and tight. Then fluids under the pan. Ford said it was a main bearing and then changed that to a pan gasket. Now, I get huge belches of black smoke accompanied by severe loss of power. Sometimes it just sits there and does not stall but does not move. I love my truck. Got it set up just the way I like it and do not want to change trucks. I don't trust Ford any more! Anyone have any ideas? Thinking of just buying a whole new and better engine.

Good Day, I am sorry to here your issues, as they are common with that engine. I spent years in a motor pool and have had experience with alot of diesels, trucks and heavy equipment. wittout getting off point I would like to inform you that Ford KNOWS the 6.blow is a bad design. the new 6.4 is just an improved version of a bad design. do not buy the head bolt fix as it is not. Deprogram or remove any engine cpu mods your truck has immediately. The head is you main culprit. I have known a few guy with the 6.0 and they spent thousands then traded for a cummins powered truck. if you are going to swap a motor the 7.3 is not worth it when you can go cummins. check out dieselenginetrader.com there are 3800 cummins there. offer 2800, settle at 3k and be happy. the 48re dodge auto is better than the 47re. an inline diesel is without exception way better! battle with ford, DO NOT let them push you around.. they are stalling til warranty runs out. they have been guided by manufacturer to do so. get it fixed then trade it in on a dodge. NOT a DURACRAP.

sorry, i must clarify. the FORD is a great platform. if you choose to get a cummins put it in and you will have the ulitmate frankenstein truck. dodge is only better because of cummins. if ford went cummins no one would buy a duracrap. i had an LB7 with allison and sold it. the dodge axles may be heavy dana's but are a weaker than meets the eye version. the ford has better interior size and materials, better frame, sheet metal, axles, brakes, better steering box..
